Welcome! "..of the Seas and all things within the province of law pertaining to it!"

Tritonova (Triton and ova)...don't ask me why I added the ova suffice. Sounded nice I guess.

Don't ask me either if he (Triton) exists or ever existed. I don't know. I never lived in his epoch. Or if I did then I can't remember. After all, that must have been eons ago. Well it turns out this dude is fabled in Greek mythology. Quite the accomplished god if you ask me. Ok maybe not like Poseidon. Or Zeus. Or Hercules. But his tale is told as well. He represents the mysteries of the sea. The allure of the deep. I find him (it?) fascinating myself. And lest you think he has gone out of fashion. He is still the object of (pop? I would say electronica) culture. Ask  Marc Romboy and Stephan Bodzin. They have a techno beat with precisely that name and his imperial image. Though for the life of me I really don't why.

But I digress.

I will tell a tale. Yes a tale. For that is what life is. Essentially a tale. A long windy tale. That has no plot and has many ways, some of which is seldom traveled. But that is life. It is a tale. A story ever evolving. Constantly in motion.

In a way Life is like the sea.

You pause....

and think about it for a minute. Life is filled with vicissitudes. It's very uncertain. It goes as a child would say -Up and Down.

So also does the sea.

Life is full of passion. Of pain. Of compassion. Of evil. Of victory. Of defeat. Of love. Of hate. Of mysteries. of profanity. Of intrigues. Of twists. Of turns. Of laughter. Of tears. Of certainty. Of surprises.

Yeah you guessed right. So also is the sea.

I will tell a tale here of the seas much like life. Engaging. Fascinating. Enthralling. Captivating. Hopefully not boring.

I will tell a tale unlike life with one sole theme-the sea and things connected therewith from the perspective of the unwavering gaze of the law.

Admiralty Law. Maritime Law. The Law of the Sea. Carriage of Goods. Shipping Law. Ocean Law & Policy. These are subjects which seem infinitely serious and boring. Serious? Yes. Boring? Perhaps not.

I once had the view they were boring. I no longer do. Think about it! The Earth is almost two-thirds covered with water. You may have heard this right? Yeah it is true. If in doubt check here. What this means is that an astonishing 70% of existential phenomena mainly occurs in/on/at the seas. This is simply mind boggling!

There is so  much we know already about the seas. The high seas has been dubbed the common heritage of mankind. There is also so much we do not know about the seas.

Pause again...

and ponder.

There are many remote islands scattered all over the seas. There are island states. There are archipelagos. There are low tide elevations. There are artificial constructs. Some ships are as large as mini apartment blocks. Seafarers stay on the seas for a very long time. Ships sink. Oil and effluents spill. The depth of the ocean is home to many wrecks-physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual. There are submarine cables that are the world's telecommunications backbone. The sea has been put into a variety of uses by man from time immemorial. For some it's livid rage can be disastrous. For some others the sea is a deity to be reverenced. Many seek their fortunes on the seas. Many die on it. Some are born on it. For some like me it is a career-a means of livelihood. For everyone sometimes it could be a source of joy. Other times of untold sorrow. Nations have fallen and risen on the back of the sea. Even the Earth had once been destroyed by water.

There are many tales in all of these. Many lessons to be learnt. I will tell these tales from a lawyer's viewpoint as best as I can. The tale is a tale of life. So hopefully you would not get sea sick...

unless...

unless you are sick of life.

WELCOME ABOARD SHIP.

  1. I am already on board friend. One thing I know and believe: I cannot be sea sick riding on your tale boat. So hoist the knowledeg sail and lets sail on to world of deep understanding where the only axceptable menu is that laced with true taste of legal profundity(hope I got that grammar right!)
